The entertainment world is reeling under the after-effects of the unprecedented shutdown in production of all film, TV and web shows. Daily TV shows have been hit the hardest as they air every day and need a sizeable episode bank to keep their viewers entertained. Most shows have already run out of new episodes to show, and have taken to airing reruns of old episodes. Some TV channels have even yanked out old shows from the cans, shows that had shut down long ago, and are airing them on their platforms.
ZEE TV’s popular shows Kundali Bhagya and Kumkum Bhagya are faced with a similar scenario. Both shows are Balaji Telefilms’ productions, and both have run out of new episodes to air. Ekta Kapoor, head of both Balaji Telefilms as well as ALTBalaji, has had a brainwave of an idea to ride out the wave. Instead of showing reruns of old episodes, Ekta and Zee TV will now air ALTBalaji‘s most popular digital shows to keep viewers entertained.
The schedule is as follows – popular pair Ram Kapoor and Sakshi Tanwar’s Karr Le Tu Bhi Mohabbat will air from 9 pm – 10 pm every night, from Monday to Friday, Sharman Joshi and Asha Negi’s Baarish will air from 10 pm to 10:30 pm, and Ronit Roy, Gurdeep Kohli and Mona Singh’s Kehne Ko Humsafar Hain will air from 10:30 pm onwards.
Ekta Kapoor took to her Instagram to make the announcement. She wrote, “V tough times but we will get through together. Since we cannot make any more eps of #kumkumbhagya #kundalibhagya we have extended our family shows to @zeetv so 9 pm to 10 pm instead of karan preeta or abhi Pragya u will see tipsy n karan! we can’t do anything to help our viewers but entertain them during these tough stressed times so this gem from our library for u all! Ur fav couple #sakshitanwar n @iamramkapoor r back from tonight 9-10pm in#karletubhimohabat on tv! Enjoy n stay home n stay safe.”
At this rate, even if the situation doesn’t ease in the coming month, Ekta Kapoor’s ALTBalaji has a considerable library of web shows that can be leveraged in the dire times.
