Amazon Launches Prime Video Store For Movie Rentals On OTT Platform

OTT giant Amazon Prime Video has added a new section called ‘Prime Video Store’ on both its mobile app and web application. The new menu gives the viewers the option to rent a film on the Amazon Prime Video OTT platform. The segment has been categorized into various sub-sections namely ‘New Release Movies’, ‘Animated Movies’, ‘Comedy Movies’, ‘Drama Movies’, and ‘Documentary Movies’, to name a few.

Prime Video Store will give early access to some new and premium titles for prospective viewers which they can watch before these titles are available for regular streaming on the Amazon Prime Video OTT platform.

The ‘New Release Movies’ segment is particularly exciting because the collection boasts of some immensely popular and premium rentable titles such as ‘The Batman’ (Rs.499/-), ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ (Rs.99/-), ‘Matrix Resurrections’ (Rs.149/-), ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ (Rs.99/-), ‘Don’t Breathe 2’ (Rs.99/-), ‘Moonfall’ (Rs.99/-), and ‘Scream’ (Rs.99/-), amongst the current list of 22 new movies available so far on the Prime Video Store.

However, there is a catch too. For instance, ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ can now be rented on Prime Video Store but we can only watch the HD/SD version of the film on the platform at a rental value of Rs.99/-. On the other hand, the BookMyShow streaming service is offering the same film in a more premium 4K format, albeit at a higher rental value of Rs.179/- per viewing.

Another thing is that, as of now, Amazon Prime Video’s rental movies store comprises only English language movies and the dubbed versions of foreign films in some Indian languages. So, currently, the rental menu does not have any Indian films per se. We would have to wait and watch whether Indian movies would later be added to the Prime Video Store and whether higher UHD/4K formats would be made available for big-ticket films like ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ and ‘Matrix Resurrections’.
