Amazon has ordered a new comedy series ‘The Lake’ starring golden globe nominee Julia Stiles (‘Silver Linings Playboaok’, ‘The Bourne Identity’), Jordan Gavaris (‘Orphan Black’) and Madison Shamoun (‘#BlackAF’, ‘Black-ish’) in the lead. It will be Amazon Prime Video’s first scripted Canadian Amazon Original series.
As reported by a prominent news portal, ‘The Lake’ follows the story of Justin (Gavaris) who returns to his country after a breakup with his long term partner. He now hopes of reconnecting with his biological daughter whom he gave up for adoption in his teenage. When he finds Billy (Shamoun), he wishes to create some memories with her city loving daughter at the idyllic lake form his childhood. But to his surprise his father has left the cottage in the name of her ‘picture-perfect’ stepsister Maisy-May (Stiles).
Amazon’s ‘The Lake’ is produced by Amaze Films & Television whose previous credits include crime comedy drama series ‘Carter’, HBO comedy series ‘Call Me Fitz and more. The half-hour comedy show is set in a cottage country and the shoot for the same will take place in the coming months.
Julian Doucet (‘Killjoys’, ‘Hudson & Rex’) is set to write and direct ‘The Lake’ which also stars Jon Dore (‘Funny As Hell’, ‘Expecting’), Carolyn Scott (‘Pushing Tin’, ‘Adventures of Superman’), Natalie Lisinka (‘Orphan Black’, ‘The Expanse’), Travis Nelson (‘Mistletoe Magic’, ‘Tucker and Dale vs Evil’) and Declan Whaley (‘Criminal Minds’, ‘Alexa & Katie’).
‘The Lake’ that is set to launch in 2022 on Amazon Prime Video is the fourth Canadian Amazon Original overall following sketch comedy ‘The Kids in the Hall’, docu-series ‘All or Nothing: Toronto Maple Leafs’ and comedy format LOL: Last One Laughing Canada.
