In the future, technology can be so advanced that it can help you find your soulmate. Well, this is the basic premise of Amazon Prime Video’s latest series “Soulmates”. Soulmates came out on Amazon Prime Video US earlier in 2020 and it was this year in February when the web-series arrived in India for its Indian audience. It was released on the 6th of February, 2021 and easily started getting attention from its viewers. The web series comes from the producers of the uber famous Netflix sci-fi series “Stranger Things and Black Mirror.
It is an anthology series that has 6 episodes and with each episode follows the life of 6 couples who are trying hard to find love and to find their soulmate. The series will make a certain point very clear that a soul mate is not someone who you are supposed to end up with for the rest of your lives; in fact it is someone whom you will love the most in your entire lifetime. Taking that in focus, the makers add the twist of technology to it. The twist is something that will make you think how life would be different if all these actually come into play.
Taking place in an alternate reality and 15 years from now, science makes a discovery where you can find your soul mate with the help of a piece attached to your eye and a simple test. With that, either you get to know everything about your lover, so you see the message that your soul mate hasn’t been tested yet flashing in front of you. This gives the choice to the one who sees it, to choose that person to love after knowing everything or to love someone that you don’t know anything about.

The stories though are completely different and will tell you about a new emotion all together, it all happens in the backdrop of the test, that people take to find out their soulmates. Most might be thinking this would be another series where they choose technology to do something and it will be completely geeky and without emotions. Well, this is where you are wrong. This is the complete opposite of that. Even though it shows a technological perspective, the emotions of the series in all the stories take the front seat no matter what.
Fighting issues like adultery, losing someone, fighting abusive boyfriends, finding confidence and seeking truth, the web series tackles some really important issues with a very delicate narrative, which will definitely leave an impact on you. The web-series has already been renewed for the 2nd season and it will be interesting to see if it is the same concept that they follow or take a different route.
