Amazon Prime has bagged International Streaming rights to “Shotgun Wedding” starring Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel from Lionsgate. The romantic comedy doesn’t have a release date yet, but it is expected for the film to have a day-and-date limited theatrical release.
“Shotgun Wedding” follows Darcy (played by Lopez) and Tom (played by Duhamel) gathering their lovely and opinionated families for their ultimate destination wedding. But soon enough they develop cold feet and to add to the troubles, everyone’s lives becomes threatened as the entire party is taken hostage. Jennifer Coolidge, Sonia Braga, Cheech Marin, Selena Tan and Lenny Kravitz also join Lopez and Duhamel in the action romantic comedy. “Shotgun Wedding” was written by Mark Hammer and directed by Jason Moore.
“Packed with action, comedy, and a dash of romance, Shotgun Wedding is one of those rare films with something for everyone,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios.
Lopez’s previous romantic comedy, “Marry Me” also received a day-and-date theatrical release as it streamed on Peacock over the Valentine’s Day weekend. It is said that “Marry Me” is the most watched film on Peacock.
“Shotgun Wedding” will thereby join Amazon Prime Video’s event-films along the likes of Paramount’s “Coming 2 America”, Paramount/Skydance’s “The Tomorrow War” and “Without Remorse”; Sony’s “Cinderella”; and Universal’s “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm”.
