Popular Indian actress Nushrratt Bharuccha, who is known for starring in lighthearted entertainers like ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’, ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’, and ‘Chhalaang’, will soon be seen playing the lead role in Amazon Prime Video’s original horror drama film titled ‘Chhorii’, which would be a stark departure from the aforementioned rom-coms.
And earlier today, streaming giant Amazon Prime Video revealed that ‘Chhorii’ will start streaming on its OTT platform this November. Although the exact date of release has not been disclosed yet. The post was accompanied by a nerve-racking and scary sneak peek motion poster of the horror film that featured a pregnant woman amidst the backdrop of an ominous background.
Directed by Vishal Furia, the Amazon original movie ‘Chhorii’ is a remake of the filmmaker’s own directorial debut 2017 Marathi film ‘Lapachhapi’. Besides, Vishal Furia had also directed the acclaimed web series ‘Criminal Justice’ starring Vikrant Massey, Pankaj Tripathi, and Jackie Shroff. Chhorii’s filming had commenced in November 2020 and concluded in December 2020.
(Spoilers Ahead) The original film ‘Lapachhapi’ revolved around an eight-months pregnant woman who escapes along with her husband to a remote village in a house which is surrounded by eerie sugarcane fields. The woman soon begins to experience some strange phenomenon and must save her unborn baby from an evil presence. (Spoilers End)
Produced by T-Series, Crypt TV, and Abundantia Entertainment, ‘Chhorii’ marks the maiden production venture of Vikram Malhotra’s Abundantia Entertainment under the Psych brand, which is focused on the horror and paranormal genre. ‘Chhorii’ also marks the first collaboration between Psych and the Los Angeles-based Crypt TV known for showcasing a new brand of scary shows. Abundantia’s previous films slate comprises some critically acclaimed and commercial hits like Baby, Airlift, Toilet – Ek Prem Katha, Shakuntala Devi and Sherni.
