The news that Nani‘s upcoming Telugu feature film ‘Tuck Jagadish‘ will opt for a direct-to-OTT release, took the Telugu film industry by storm. Still, when the producers opted out of a theatrical release – they decided to cut a deal with Amazon Prime Video to release the film for streaming. While the Telugu theatre and distributors associations are still angry with this decision, Telugu film fans (Nani fans, in particular) have been pestering Amazon Prime Video on multiple social media platforms, so as to determine the release date of this highly-anticipated Telugu film.
So far Twitter and Facebook have been bombarded by fans, demanding a release date for ‘Tuck Jagadish’. While many media outlets have released news stating that the movie could release on the 10th of September, neither the film producers nor the streaming platform has confirmed this supposed release date. In fact, according to the Twitter handle, “Amazon Help”, they don’t have any news regarding the film itself. Interesting.
Keeping the same theatrical release date as its original date has not worked for ‘Tuck Jagadish’. Another Telugu film starring Naga Chaitanya, ‘Love Story’, is releasing in theatres on that very same day, and according to the theatre associations, ‘Tuck Jagadish’s’ OTT release will inversely affect this theatrical release. So, as you can see, this is why both the streaming platform and the film producers haven’t been able to set a streaming date yet. Opting for a different release date is the best option, but no official announcement has come out on that front.
10th September 2021 sounds like a good release date, but we won’t have official confirmation until we can better understand the situation. For all we know, ‘Love Story’ could end up scrapping its theatrical release as well, especially since the peak of the third wave of the coronavirus is supposedly around the corner.
For now, we will have to wait and see.
