Amazon Prime Video has cancelled the sci-fi television series ‘Utopia‘ after it’s initial season which premiered earlier this year in September 2020. The show didn’t exactly topped the charts and was met with lukewarm reviews. And hence the cancellation arrives only after two months of its release.
Based on the 2013-14 British series of the same name, the American adaptation was handled by Gone Girl author and screenwriter Gillian Flynn. Apparently Flynn had been working on this particular American adaptation of the series for seven years and had struck a deal with HBO with David Fincher set to direct. But when the pre production of the show started Fincher and HBO couldn’t come together for the budget and hence Flynn took the show to Amazon sans Fincher.
Utopia followed a group of young adults who meet online due to their common love for the comic series ‘Utopia’. At first everything seems normal but slowly the group starts to realize that the threats mentioned in the book towards humanity aren’t just fictional but actually real and hazardous. Trying to figure out how to save the world, the group meets the central character of the comic – Jessica Hyde who joins them in their mission for the safety of the world.
The news of cancellation arrives as Amazon ordered the sixth and final season of ‘The Expanse’.
Utopia starred – John Cusack, Desmin Borges, Rainn Wilson, Dan Byrd, Ashleigh LaThrop, Jessica Rothe, Javon Walton, Christopher Denham, Sasha Lane, Cory Michael Smith and others.
