Licensed Films

In February 2023, the most talked about title acquisition by Amazon Prime Video was Vijay’s action movie ‘Varisu’, which is one of the highest grossing movies of the year so far despite receiving mixed feedback from critics. ‘Varisu’ displays the box-office and OTT pull which Vijay has over his loyal fan base even if it’s not considered by many as a well-made movie.

Besides ‘Varisu’, the Malayalam crime drama ‘Thankam’ and ‘Hunt’ (‘Mumbai Police’ remake) attracted a segment of OTT audiences in the month of February.

But some other licensed film titles like ‘Kranti’ ‘Gaalodu’, and ‘Mukhachitram’ failed to create a huge impact on OTT viewers on Amazon Prime Video. The Hindi version of ‘Gold’ was also released but didn’t get much traction during the month.

Web Series

Just one major web series title – Raj & DK’s ‘Farzi’ released on Amazon Prime Video during the month of February. But Shahid Kapoor’s OTT debut almost single-handedly made streaming audiences flock to Amazon Prime Video OTT platform in huge numbers. The show was trending big time throughout the month of February and turned out to be a major hit for the OTT giant.

Direct-to-OTT Films / Others

There was no major commercial movie which was released in February directly on Amazon Prime Video. Although Anubhav Bassi’s stand-up comedy special ‘Bas Kar Bassi’ gained some popularity amongst genre fans. Although some viewers were slightly disappointed by the act as they expected more from the talented entertainer.

So, overall, there were five ‘Hits’ and four ‘Misses’ for Amazon Prime Video for the month of February 2023.
