Prime Video’s absurdist dark comedy series I’m a Virgo created, written, directed and executive produced by Sorry to Bother You writer-director Boots Riley has cast On My Block fame Brett Gray , Kara Young from The Punisher, Cruel Summer’s Allius Barnes and Olivia Washington (Lee Daniels’ The Butler) as series regulars opposite lead Jharrel Jerome, DEADLINE reports. Mike Epps and Carmen Ejogo are also set to star. This marks Boots Riley’s first Project since Sorry to Bother You.
” Our cast is hard as hell. Our cast slaps everyone else’s cast around on the playground. Sorry. I’ve spoken with the principal about this and there’s nothing more I can do,” Riley said about the show’s principal cast.
I’m a Virgo is said to be a radical coming-of-age tale about Cootie ( played by Jerome), a 13-foot-tall young Black man who lives in Oakland, CA. However character descriptions are not yet released.
” I’m thrilled to be working with Amazon on this project,” said Riley earlier when the project was green-lit by Amazon Studios. “This show will either have me lauded or banned, and as such, I have demanded payment up front.” “No one is quite like Boots, and we’re so excited to be working with him and Jharrel on this fantastical, funny, and utterly unique new series. We can’t wait for our Prime Video customers to see it.” said Albert Cheng, COO and Co-Head of Television at Amazon Studios.
Riley executive produces this Amazon Studios original along with Media Res’ Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer; Tze Chun, who serves as co-showrunner; and Jerome.
