According to the latest reports, Amazon Prime Video is keen to produce a live-action adaptation of the “God Of War” TV series with PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures Television serving as main producers. Additionally, we may even see The Wheel Of Time creator Rade Judkins and the creating duo of The Expanse, Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, in the production team of the upcoming Prime Video adaptation. However, Amazon is yet to confirm this piece of news officially.
The first instalment of God Of War came out in 2005 on the PlayStation 2. Its worldwide and record-breaking success made it the flagship gaming product for the PS brand. This gaming series has dispatched ten entries so far. Santa Monica is currently working on the forthcoming eleventh entry. We can see the Greek era in the first seven games of the franchise. Then, there was a prequel named Ascension dispatched in 2013. After that, the franchise jumped into the Norse territory with 2018’s GOW edition.
There’s no denying that the GOW gaming series is one of the best video gaming franchises of all time. It has received critical acclaim and outstanding response from fans for its breathtaking action and gore. The entire franchise has sold more than 51 million copies globally.
But we also know that the live-action adaptations of video games usually don’t work well with the audience. This genre is filled with various critically butchered movies and tv shows. So, it will be a difficult task for Amazon to pull this off nicely and without pissing off the game’s fanbase.
Representatives for Amazon Prime Video and Sony Pictures Television are yet to comment on the reported live-action adaptation of the “God Of War” TV series. It was Deadline who first broke the news. Stay tuned for more updates.
