Amazon Prime Video has been bagging the streaming rights of brilliant films left and right – especially movies from South India. But with the releases of the brilliant films ‘Narappa’ and ‘Sarpatta Parambarai’ on the streaming platforms – it has become apparent that there were some movies that deserved to have a theatrical release of their own. And while ‘The Tomorrow War’ is not one of those brilliant movies; it still deserved to have a theatrical release.
‘The Tomorrow War’ is definitely not a particularly a clever film – most of the characters are wooden, dialogue is predictable, we saw the twists coming from miles away, but somehow, through sheer dumb luck, it somehow manages to keep our attention throughout. And all that was not even the end of our complaints – the film glosses over important plot points, the main characters have very thick plot armour (especially Chris Pratt) and the pacing is all over the place – but the movie is not completely ridiculous with the script either.
Chris Pratt, J.K.Simmons and to an extent, Yvonne Strahovski all put in good acting performances. The CGI and action sequences are fun to watch, while the music and cinematography is quite good. When looking at the film’s plot, we see a film that had the potential to be a summer blockbuster with a little work. And that’s what makes this movie a theatrical release.
While the current situation doesn’t help anybody least of all theatre and cinema hall owners – a movie with a budget of USD 200 million could have been held back a few more months before it gets a worldwide theatrical release. Still, we are lucky that we got to see the movie early, even though it is disappointing that we won’t get to see it in theatres.
‘The Tomorrow War’ is available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
