The trailer for the upcoming Malayalam comedy ‘Sara’s‘, dropped a few hours ago on the official YouTube channel of Amazon Prime Video India. This direct-to-OTT releasing film will premiere in a few days and will address a few of the social norms that are blindly accepted in current society (in India at least). The trailer itself is quite eye-opening and we think that the film will delve into this social matter more deeply. Check out the trailer at the end of this article.
The choices of being in a relationship, getting married and having children are not exactly our own in the Indian society. The “No dating ever” policy, get married to the person who is chosen for you by your family and having children within a couple of years into the marriage are decisions made for you by others. And it is still prevalent in the Indian society today. That will be a huge part of what this film is going to be addressing.
Anna Ben stars in the titular of Sara in this movie. Her character is a woman who is being forced to marry by her family, who is not thrilled with this idea. She works in the film industry and has a budding career, so she feels that marriage and the resultant pregnancy and child-rearing that will eventually follow, will hinder her career prospects in the long run. So she declares to her parents that she doesn’t want a child. Which shocks her parents and her immediate family.
Enter Sunny Wayne’s character who doesn’t have a job and is forced to take care of his nephews while their parents are working. After spending a lot of time with kids, he too has had enough of children. He concludes that he wants to marry a woman who will not want children. Both of them meet and decide on a six month trial period to get to know each other before they decide to commit to each other for good.
The film trailer also touches on topics such as political correctness and feminism – both topics which are treated as radioactive by many in the state of Kerala. So based on that alone, this movie should be interesting to watch.
‘Sara’s’ premieres on Amazon Prime Video on July 5th 2021.
