Deepika Padukone‘s baby, the Bollywood remake of Hollywood hit ‘The Intern’, has finally got back on its feet. That is because superstar Amitabh Bachchan has come on board the film to take the place of the late Rishi Kapoor. The news was shared on her social media by Deepika Padukone via a bright yellow poster, embellished with the silhouettes of the two lead actors.
It was with much fanfare that the Bollywood remake of the Robert De Niro, Anne Hathaway starrer The Intern was announced last year. Fans were especially stoked with the inspired casting – Deepika Padukone to play Anne Hathaway’s driven yet curiously naive start-up owner; and Rishi Kapoor as Robert De Niro’s new intern, who quickly becomes her friend, philosopher, guide and everything else. However, Rishi Kapoor’s untimely passing put paid to those plans.
Amitabh Bachchan coming on board the film is a welcome surprise for fans of the Piku pairing. The maven is certain to bring his unique energy and mojo to the film. The Intern remake will be directed by Amit Sharma (Badhaai Ho), produced by Sunil Kheterpal and Deepika Padukone, co-produced by Warner Bros India, and written by Akshat Ghildial and Mitesh Shah.
Deepika Padukone welcomed the thespian on board the still-to-be-named film with a cute message on Instagram. She wrote –
“What an absolute honour to be collaborating with one of my most special co-star again!💛 Welcoming @amitabhbachchan to the Indian adaptation of #TheIntern.”
