Some time back, we had informed you about India’s first original space fiction web series titled ‘Antariksh’ which is written and directed by talented filmmaker Badrinath Sabat.
In an exclusive chat with the gifted filmmaker, we were informed that the series would essentially revolve around a rescue mission that has to be executed, when an Indian astronaut, who was sent to a usual six-monthly space assignment, mysteriously goes missing.
The story would also reportedly explore the consequent political drama happening on earth, following the missing astronaut. Regarding the pros and cons of bringing the astronaut back to Earth.
The filmmaker further apprised that ‘Antariksh’, however, is not a one-man journey but instead, it’s a broader story that touches upon advanced space technology concepts, which the Indian viewers may not have seen before on-screen.
He further made us aware that for executing this ambitious project, he had done comprehensive research and had read dozens of books based on the subject matter of space exploration and related technologies, besides conducting a detailed study on NASA and USSR space programs.
In fact, the filmmaker further said that the basic plotline of the series was somewhat inspired by a missing Russian astronaut.
The filmmaker also expressed his desire to hopefully inspire budding scientists and engineers through the novel ideas and innovative concepts that will be shown in the series.
Moreover, since one of the most crucial factors for making a film set in space is the production design, the filmmaker has roped in celebrated Art Director & Production Designer Sukant Panigrahy, who had previously worked in reputed films such as ‘Chak De! India’, ‘Dev.D’, ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, ‘Drishyam’, and many more.
The filmmaker further apprised that the series will most likely start steaming by the end of the year if all goes well. However, the platform on which it will be released has not yet been finalized.
‘Antariksh’, owing to its unique and ambitious subject matter, would certainly be a turning point in Indian cinema after its release.
Previously, the filmmaker had helmed three short films namely ‘Psycho or Genius!’, ‘Tube Way’ and ‘Manodasha’.
Besides ‘Antariksh’, the award-winning independent filmmaker has two other interesting projects lined up for release. They are ‘Narayan’ (about a freelance mathematician) and ‘Time Series’ (an anthology mini-series centering around the concept of time).
