‘Lo spietato’, translated as ‘The Ruthless’ in English is a gritty crime drama that premiered in April 2019. The movie was a joint venture between France and Italy and was directed by Renato De Maria.
The movie tells the story of a teenager named Santo Russo who grows ambitious and enters the evil world of crime. Santo comes to a new neighborhood with his parents and due to a misunderstanding, he is placed in prison. Behind the bars, he gets the real training of being a gangster, and with his friends Slim and Mario, Santo starts a dangerous new gang. The Ruthless is based in 1980s Italy and shows a very realistic and believable picture of the Italian underworld of that time.
The movie stars Riccardo Scamarcio in the lead role and has other actors like Sara Serraiocco, Alessio Praticò, Alessandro Tedeschi, Marie-Ange Casta, Sara Cardinaletti, Angelo Libri in other important roles. The music for the film is given by Riccardo Sinigallia and Emiliano di Meo. Le Spietato is one hour and fifty one minutes long and is said to be based on real incidents. It is said to be adapted from the life of mafia Don Saverio Morabito, who ruled the Italian underworld for quite some time.
