‘Dharm’ is written by Varun Gautam and Vibha Singh and directed by Bhavna Talwar. The film stars Pankaj Kapoor and Supriya Pathak in the lead roles and has Hrishitaa Bhatt, Pankaj Tripathi, K. K. Raina and Daya Shankar Pandey in other important roles.
The film tells the story of a religious Brahmin with very staunch and solid views on his faith and he is a bit disturbed when his wife takes an orphan child with her to home. The man is irritated at first but soon develops a strong bond with the child. However, tables are turned when the family finds out about the religion of the boy.
The film is a very strong commentary on religious fanaticism and the present trifles that religions have against one another. The performances are top-notch and needless to say, Pankaj and Supriya deliver to the audience what is expected from them, maybe more.
The film came out in 2007 and was not that well received by audiences but it went up to much acclaim by critics and also won several awards. Bhavna Talwar executes her debut film with ease and mastery and the visuals are truly stunning. The music of the film is given by Debojyoti Mishra and it has some truly wonderful songs.
