Global OTT Major, Netflix is not as aggressive as Amazon Prime Video in bagging Direct to OTT releases. Amazon Prime Video opened its account with the first Direct to Digital hit, Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru. Netflix is under pressure now to open its kitty in that account.
A Tamil film, Andhaghaaram is going to be premiered on the 24th of this month. Andhaghaaaram is a supernatural thriller written and directed by a newcomer, V. Vignarajan. Promising young filmmaker Atlee is bankrolling the film. The movie is also going to have a Telugu dubbed version due to Atlee’s popularity in Telugu. Atlee is familiar to the Telugu audience with dubbing hits like Raja Rani, Police, Adirindhi, and Whistle.
Telugu version, Andhakaaram is also going to be premiered on the same day. But the absence of a notable cast for the Telugu audience is a hindrance. Only Pooja Ramachandran is a ‘somewhere’ seen face to the audience there. Except for releasing the trailer, there are not many promotions for the movie. There are multiple trailers and teasers for the Tamil version. Coming to Andhaghaaram, OTT Business is booming in Tamil with two back to back hits – Soorarai Pottru and Mookuthi Amman. It has to be seen if Andhaghaaram will be able to extend the success streak.
