Diego Luna starrer Andor Episode 6 is now available on Disney+ Hotstar.
Holy sh#t! These two words perfectly describe the latest episode of Andor. What an exhilarating, intense, and emotional episode for the fans! The show’s hype before the premiere was not as gigantic as Ewan McGregor’s Kenobi series. But Tony Gilroy and his team have delivered a complete banger of a show so far.
The last couple of episodes served as a buildup for Episode 6. We saw Vel accepting Clem (Andor) as part of her rebel group despite showing initial signs of disbelief towards him. The rest of the group members react in the same way, except for Nemik. He was ready to accept any kind of help he could get. And the previous episode saw the rebels planning to attack and rob the Empire’s Aldhani base.
SPOILER WARNING!
We can divide Episode 6 into two parts. The first part shows an eerie calm before the storm among the rebels as they are nervous and scared. They understand the risks involved and know deep in their hearts that some of them will not be alive after the mission. Meanwhile, we see some Imperial officers discussing how they manipulate the people of Aldhani. They offer safe passage to the natives to celebrate the ritual of the eye as part of their manipulation tactics. This scenario also gives rebels a chance to execute their heist because the Imperial soldiers get busy with the distractions related to the ritual.
We see the rebel group breaking into the base and executing their heist. They jam all the Imperial audio scanners, hold some officers as hostages, and use numerous guards to load the ship with the credits. Clem (Andor) has mentioned in the previous episodes that the Empire is way too cocky. They find it impossible to believe that anyone can even think about entering their bases and committing acts like robbery. However, their cockiness often gives them a lot of trouble.
But things go south after an Imperial squad interrupts the rebels’ heist. As a result, the group sustains the loss of Taramyn. On top of that, Nemik accidentally fractures the entire lower portion of his body. Still, he manages to provide aerial directions and coordinates to Clem.
The remaining survivors take Nemik to a nearby medical facility where a doctor tries to save him. Meanwhile, Skeen reveals to Clem that he never had a brother. He lied about his past so that he could take all the credits after the robbery and live somewhere else, away from the entire Empire-Rebels hoopla. Clem immediately kills him after sensing his evil plan. After that, he goes to Vel and demands what he is owed. He also informs her about Skeen’s evil plan and gives her the Kyber crystal, which was given to him by Rael.
In the episode’s final moments, we see Rael laughing his heart out after hearing about the successful execution of the heist conducted by the rebel group.
Andor Episode 6 is undoubtedly one of the best Star Wars episodes ever. And the fact that this episode does not utilise notable cameo appearances from iconic Star Wars characters like Luke Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, Boba Fett, and many more to make itself more impactful is just amazing. Additionally, we knew that some of the characters would die, except Andor, in this one. We just did not know who. Taramyn’s death was quick and unexpected. And Nemik died honourably. But Andor blasting Skeen? Come on! No one saw that coming!
Also, Episode 6 treasures some truly eye-pleasing visual effects and cinematographical work. Especially the scene where Clem (Andor) flies the ship through the sky filled with tons of colourful shooting stars is an exciting and satisfying visual treat. Poor TIE fighters!
It seems clear that Andor has plans of his own. He does not believe in the rebellion yet. And he also has a sister to save. It explains why he killed Skeen out of nowhere and demanded a fair share of credits from Vel for himself. The latest episode marks the middle of the first season. We still have six more episodes to go.
