South Indian Chamber of Commerce (SICC) finally responded to the complaints of Anniyan producer V Ravichandran on Anniyan Hindi Remake announcement.
Just after a day of the massive announcement of director Shankar collaborating with Ranveer Singh for the remake of the Tamil blockbuster, the producer of the original movie Anniyan, V Ravichandran released an open letter to Shankar via social media stating that he is shocked, hearing about this remake as he is the whole and sole owner of the rights to the film and filmmaker Shankar cannot remake the same without his permission.
Ravichandran said in his letter, “The entire story rights was purchased by me from the writer Sujatha (alias late Rangarajan) for which full payment was done by me to him and necessary records are also available. I am the whole and sole owner of the rights of the storyline. As such, any such adoption or remaking or copying the main plot of the said movie, without my permission, is totally illegal.”
Now, earlier yesterday, V Ravichandran has reportedly lodged a complaint to the South Indian Chamber of Commerce (SICC) concerning ”Anniyan” remake as confirmed by the chairman of the SICC, Ravi Kottarakara.
Kottarakara reportedly confirmed that since V Ravichandran is a member of the association, they have received his complaint and they will further be writing to director Shankar, asking for his reply to the alleged complaint. He further concluded his statement saying “I would not like to comment in this case; we will wait for Shankar’s response.”
Earlier, in response to the allegations by V Ravichandran, Shankar hits back by stating, “I submit that the movie was released in the year 2005 and everyone associated with the movie were aware that the script and storyline belongs exclusively to me and in fact the movie was released with the tag: story, screenplay and direction by Shankar. I have not assigned in writing any script or screenplay to any person, and continue to retain the right to exploit the script in any manner I deem fit.”
Anniyan, the 2005 Tamil psychological thriller featuring Vikram as an honest lawyer suffering from multiple personality disorder was a blockbuster & a winner of record breaking 8 Filmfare awards. Ranveer Singh alongside Kiara Advani is all set to star in the remake of the same which is scheduled to go on floor very soon, but with all these legal actions, it’s future now looms in a bit of uncertainty.
