Amidst the ongoing protests, another Bengali film has now been postponed. But the makers say that the decision was not taken due to fear of failure but because of their moral stand on the protests.
The film is ‘Porichoy Gupta’ and it stars Ritwick Chakraborty, Joy Sengupta, and Indraneil Sengupta in leading roles. Ritwick Chakroborty has given a statement that he and his other co-stars whole-heartedly support the junior doctors and are removing the movie from the expected slot because it does not seem a good decision.
However, there are already multiple voices and opinions rising on the subject of releasing and promoting films during this unrest. Srijit Mukherjee and Swastika Mukherjee have already said that making a movie is their job that brings bread to their tables and they will not refrain from doing their jobs even at the times of these events. Multiple films, whereas, have been postponed silently as they had members in the cast and crew that have certain political inclinations that would make the movies sure-shot flops.
The screenplay is written by Rono Raj and the movie is directed by him too. Porichoy Gupta is a period drama that tells the story of a rich Jamidar and his archaeologist friend and the mysteries that they dig up in the palace. The concept has intrigued audiences and there is much anticipation around the movie and even if it were to be released on the 20th of September, it would have attracted a decent audience. But the decision for postponing it will prove to be good for the movie. But what about the Industry? And how long will the industry deal with this uncertainty? There is no answer.
