‘The Longest Yard’ will have its second remake now. The 1974 prison sports drama was directed by Robert Aldrich and had a screenplay by Tracy Keenan Wynn. The movie was based on a story by Albert S. Ruddy. ‘The Longest Yard’ had Burt Reynolds in the lead role and many footballers in the cast list.
‘The Longest Yard’ tells the story of a celebrity footballer who is sent to jail for some reason. The warden in that jail is a football fan and he asks him to form a good team inside. Crowe, the footballer, does so and challenges the team of guards. It is a nice prison-sports movie which is simple yet beautiful.
In 2005, a remake of the movie, having the same name, came out. It was directed by Peter Segal and starred Adam Sandler in the lead role. It had actors like Chris Rock, James Cromwell, Nelly, William Fichtner in other roles. The Great Khali too was seen in a role. And Burt Reynolds had an appearance in the movie.
There are several other remakes of the movie, like the 2001 film ‘Mean Machine’ and the Egyptian film ‘Captain Masr’.
Rodney Barnes, the executive producer of Winning Time, is writing the screenplay. The movie is being made under the banner of Paramount Pictures and Gunpowder & Sky. Paramount had produced both of the earlier movies titled the same.
It will be good to have a new adaptation of the movie. The cast and other details have not been revealed yet.
