Another Simple Favor Earns Solid First Reviews, Lively Shines

Another Simple Favor is now streaming on Prime Video, and early reviews are already rolling in. This black comedy stars Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick. Joining the leading duo are Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Elizabeth Perkins, Michele Morrone, Elena Sofia Ricci, Henry Golding, Alex Newell, and Allison Janney.

Paul Feig returns as director, with the script penned by Jessica Sharzer and Laeta Kalogridis.

According to most early reviews, Another Simple Favor is a worthy sequel to A Simple Favor (2018), though it doesn’t quite match the quality of its hit predecessor. Many critics and viewers have rated it slightly lower than the original. Nevertheless, Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick shine once again.

Among the new additions, most of the praise has been directed at Janney and Perkins. Janney, as Emily’s aunt Linda, fits right in, while Perkins is seen as an improvement over Jean Smart, who portrayed Emily’s mother in the first film. However, the rest of the new cast members fail to leave much of an impression.

Many critics have highlighted Lively’s performance as one of the best of her career. However, some have criticized the film’s two-hour runtime, suggesting it could have been trimmed to avoid pacing issues.

Also, not all reviews have been positive, as some of the critics and media platforms have declared the movie “silly” and “over-the-top.”

Another Simple Favor centers on a murder mystery set during Emily’s lavish wedding to an Italian businessman on the picturesque island of Capri. Meanwhile, Stephanie begins to suspect that Emily may once again be plotting to kill her. The film currently holds a “Fresh” score of 82% on Rotten Tomatoes—slightly lower than the original’s 84%.
