Anthony Hopkins is announcing back to back ambitious projects now. He will be starring in the miniseries ‘Those About To Die’, which will be the tale of Gladiators. Now he will be seen in the Biblical movie ‘Mary’. He will be playing the role of Herod, the Jewish king of Judea.
Alongside Hopkins, there will be rising Israeli star Noa Cohen in ‘Mary’. She will be playing the role of Mary, the mother of Christ. ‘Mary’ will be telling the story of Mary and how she is outcast by society when she gives birth to a baby outside wedlock. Herod, the king of Judea, searches for the kid, who is said to be the Messiah of the people. Herod fears that his throne is at a stake and he has to find and end the person who gives the people so much hope. Anthony Hopkins as Herod will be a treat to the eyes. The man has accomplished so much and shined with flair in the roles of such iconic characters, that one anticipates another once in a lifetime performance for him.
The movie will be directed by DJ Caruso and the origin screenplay is written by Timothy Michael Hayes. Hayes wrote the screenplay after consulting and researching with many pastors, baptists and scholars.
Producer Mary Aloe has said of Hopkins, “Hopkins was primed to play King Herod the Great. He embodied this historical figure of a King who was steeped in mental illness and greed with such great ferocity.” The release date and other details have not been revealed by the makers.
