Anubhav Sinha, known for hard hitting movies with a message like Thappad and Article 15, is ready for his upcoming project ‘Anek’ starring Ayushmaan Khurrana. Now, he has turned producer for a biopic of a freedom fighter!
Titled ‘Freedom Radio‘, this biopic is based on the life of Usha Mehta. The film is set in the 1940s pre independence period when Usha started a secret underground radio station. The idea behind this move was to broadcast news and messages from leaders to keep the spirit of freedom going.
This radio became of utmost importance during the Quit India Movement in 1942 when all modes of communication were banned or restricted and prominent leaders were arrested. That is when the youth came forward to take charge of the freedom movement.
While Anubhav will produce this biopic under his banner Benaras Mediaworks, Ketan Mehta has come onboard to fill in the director’s position. Talking to the media about the biopic, Ketan Mehta said, “Developing this story has been pure joy. Sifting through her personal diaries, and delving into my own memories have been a crucial part of work. I couldn’t have found a more supportive producer and collaborator than Anubhav who understands the vision of his filmmaker.”
The cast of ‘Freedom Radio’ is yet to be announced. Will this biopic release in the theatre or will it take the OTT route? Stay tuned, we’ll get back to you!
