First glimpse for acclaimed filmmaker Anubhav Sinha’s next ‘Bheed’ is here and it draws the similarities between the time of partition in 1947 and the more recent pandemic in 2020.
With side by side images from the times of India-Pakistan partition in 1947 and those during the pandemic imposed lockdown in 2020, ‘Bheed’ first glimpse draws similarities between the two dark times of modern India. The film, in black and white, tries to capture how society and system forced many to leave their homes and migrate with no idea of what lies in the future.
But the real question here is how long will our film industry bank on a tragedy that affected the whole wide world. And are movie goers interested in being reminded of those traumatic times anymore. There has already been enough content on the hard times of the pandemic and if ‘Bheed’ fails to offer any new perspective, it would really be a huge letdown given the big names attached to the film.
On the other hand comes the viewpoint that cinema is also a way to bring forth on screen what happens in real world. Any situation has diversified outlooks and its not possible for everyone to understand everything in its entirety. That’s where art form like cinema provide that much relevant creative freedom and often change the way we see and comprehend complex emotions, situations and much more.
Certain events in history are such that creative people revisit multiple times and bring out a whole new perspective out of it. Pandemic and the lockdown it brought along with it is one such phenomenon of current times and no one’s going to forget it anytime soon.
‘Bheed’ brings together a super talented bunch of people who have delivered great stuff before. Writing team involved with the film would have surely thought of the above and we hope that ‘Bheed’ is not the kind of lockdown content we have already seen. Also, the partition angle is a creative take on the lockdown and who knows, so maybe the film.
Written and directed Anubhav Sinha and set during the events of the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown in India, ‘Bheed’ stars Rajkumar Rao, Bhumi Pednekar, Dia Mirza, Ashutosh Rana. Kritika Kamra and Pankaj Kapoor in prominent roles. Other writers for the film include Saumya Tiwari, Sonali Jain and Sapreet Biswal.
‘Bheed’ is produced by Anubhav Sinha under his Benaras Media Works banner and Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar via T-Series Films. ‘Bheed’ is set to release in theatres on 24th March, 2023.
