Indian content behemoth Applause Entertainment is on a roll. It’s super successful show ‘Scam 1992’ has been collecting awards by the bushels. The biopic series swept the Filmfare OTT Awards recently, picking up 12 Filmfare Awards out of the 14 it was nominated for. Now, Applause Entertainment has announced its next biopic series, this time on former Indian Prime Minister, P.V. Narsimha Rao.
Interestingly, the PV Narsimha Rao biopic series is not Applause Entertainment‘s baby alone. Two of the most exciting content production companies of today are getting together to help bring it to fruition. Applause Entertainment has joined hands with exclusive Telugu OTT platform and content production house, Aha Video, to develop the P.V. Narsimha Rao biopic series. The biopic will therefore be a bilingual series – in Hindi and Telugu.
The two entities have roped in National Award winning director Prakash Jha to direct the biopic. The story is adapted from Vinay Sitapati’s book ‘Half Lion: How P.V. Narasimha Rao Transformed India’. The book is a biography of the former PM.
Every follower of the world of Indian politics knows the unsaid fact – that PV Narsimha is inarguably the most unsung, unlauded of all past prime ministers of India. History also hasn’t been too kind to him. Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, even Lal Bahadur Shastri are all credited with turning around the fortunes of India. But only the most discerning know the fact that it is PV Narsimha Rao’s policies and strategies that single-handedly ushered India into the forefront of global economy and new-age wealth creation resources.
Applause Entertainment and Aha Video aim to correct this anomaly with the help of their tell-all biopic. We can expect the same attention to detail and stellar storytelling that made Scam 1992 such a hit.
