Apple TV+ has inked an exclusive first look film and TV deal with Oscar winning actor, Leonardo DiCaprio. As per reports, the actor has signed the deal with the streaming platform through his production company, Appian Way Productions which he co-runs with Jennifer Davisson.
The announcement comes at the heels of news of Apple TV+ features ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’, a Martin Scorsese film starring DiCaprio and Robert De Niro; and an Elisabeth Moss starrer TV series ‘Shining Girls’ produced by Appian Way and MRC Television.
Although the production company previously had a first-look deal with Paramount Pictures for films; the deal with Apple TV+ is different as it include TV series as well.
Appian Way has previously produced films such as ‘The Revenant’, ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’, ‘Shutter Island’ and ‘We Go Green’ among others.
This marks Apple TV+’s latest first look deal after inking deals with companies like Green Door Pictures, Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Production, A24, Imagine Documentaries and Sesame Workshop and Peanuts.
The relatively new streaming platform, Apple TV+ is taking all measures to step up its game and give fierce competition to Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+. It has even developed a strategy to produce big-budget films to increase subscription after the success of ‘Greyhound’ and lining up more exclusive shows to its roster.
