Apple TV Plus’s First Stab At Comedy Proves Successful, But It Still Is Not The Gamechanger It Needs

Apple TV Plus is providing a steady flow of content right from its launch. They have provided a wide variety of shows across genres which have been successful in varying degrees. However, one thing missing from their stable is a comedy. It has been successfully covered now.

Apple TV Plus’s first comedy series Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet has debuted on their platform recently. The early reaction to the show has been superb. The premise set in the gaming backdrop is funny. Many are comparing it to the cult series Silicon Valley (the early seasons) and expect it to grow further in the coming days.

However, one has to be remembered that these are early days only. We have to see how Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet ends up eventually when more people see it.

Rob McElhenney of “Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia” fame is the creator as well as the lead actor in the show. Ashly Burch, Charlotte Nicdao, Imani Hakim, David Hornsby etc. play other crucial parts in the comedy series.

Unlike many of its rivals, Apple TV Plus solely depends on original content. They have to do the heavy lifting in terms of getting an audience. Lacking that one truly event series, a gamechanger, is hurting the long-term prospects of Apple TV Plus.

Siddartha Toleti: Perennially besotted with movies, I can’t imagine a day going by without watching one. Passion led to film reviews. The evolution has brought me on the digital platform. Alternatively, I love listening to music from the golden era of Hindi cinema, and Maestro Ilaiyaraja.
