Apple TV+ continues its quest to become one of the top streaming platforms. In the past few weeks it has inked various first-look deals with noted artists and creators like Leonardo DiCaprio, Idris Elba and Martin Scorsese among others.
After an intense bidding war, the platform has bagged the rights to develop a spy romance film with actor Idris Elba and producers Simon Kinberg and Audrey Chon. The untitled film will be in a similar vein to Kinberg’s ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ and will be helmed by ‘The Daily Show’ writer Travon Free.
Kinberg and Chon at Genre Films who also have a first look deal with Apple are producing a tentpole sci fi series for the streamer and a heist drama ‘Here Comes The Flood’ for Netflix along with another spy thriller, ’355’ starring Jessica Chastain and Lupita Nyong’o for Universal.
Idris Elba, who recently signed a first-look deal with the streaming platform under his Green Door Pictures banner will be seen donning both the producer and actor’s cap for the streamer. He will be seen next in ‘Concrete Cowboy’ premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival next month.
Apple TV+ is surely pulling out all stops to bag big and small releases that will surely boost its subscription base and expand to compete with streaming giants of the industry.
