An adaptation of Blake Crouch’s much acclaimed sci-fi novel “Dark Matter” is getting a series makeover at Apple TV+. Joel Edgerton stars and executive produce while author Crouch serves as writer and showrunner. The project has been more than two years in development at Apple.
The series is centred around Jason Dessen, (played by Edgerton) a physicist, professor, and a family man who — while walking home on the streets one night gets abducted into an alternate version of his life. What follows is a nightmare as he tries to get back to his reality amongst all the multiple lives he could have lived. He has to do this while also saving his family from the most terrifying foe, i.e. himself.
Tolmach and David Manpearl for Matt Tolmach Productions executive produces alongside Edgerton and Crouch. Sony Pictures Television will produce for Apple TV+. Crouch will also write the pilot script. Louis Leterrier (Now You See Me) directs the first four episodes.
Edgerton has Disney+’s new Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi and will also be seen starring in Paul Schrader’s upcoming crime thriller “Master Gardener” with Sigourney Weaver, a theatrical release. With already in development for more than two years, this sci-fi show seems to be Apple’s big gamble for the year and we hope all goes well.
