Disney+ Hotstar’s recently released survival thriller movie ‘Apurva’ was one of the most eagerly anticipated films on OTT. However, as per several critics’ reviews, the movie has turned out to be a rather underwhelming experience considering its high expectations.
It’s not that the reviews for ‘Apurva’ are outright bad but they are somewhat mixed. The film is said to be good in parts but bogged down by a predictable story and being described by some as a case of unrealized potential.
Like ‘Apurva’, there is another intense action film which the Indian audiences have been waiting for. We are referring to the upcoming extreme action flick ‘Kill’, which has been in the news this year for all the right reasons.
So, why do you think we are saying that we should be worried about the prospects of ‘Kill’ after the somewhat disappointing reviews for the Disney+ Hotstar film ‘Apurva’? Take a wild guess. Actually, both these films ‘Apurva’ and ‘Kill’ have been directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat.
We are not trying to say that if one film directed by a filmmaker has received not-so-good reviews from critics, then his next film will be given the same treatment by audiences. But since, in this case, both ‘Apurva’ and ‘Kill’ belong to the genre sub-genre and they are Nikhil Nagesh Bhat’s consecutive directorial films, the possibility crossed our mind.
On the brighter side, when ‘Kill’ was showcased at the reputed Toronto International Film Festival 2023 (TIFF), it received a terrific response from the festival audience. Moreover, ‘Kill’ was picked up by the entertainment giant Lionsgate for film’s North American and UK rights with respect to its theatrical release in these regions. So, the stakeholders are quite confident about the film.
We just hope that whatever shortcomings the critics have pointed out about ‘Apurva’, those things are not present in ‘Kill’. We have a feeling ‘Kill’ is going to be a genre-bending film for Indian cinema. We’ll know that for sure once it releases in Indian theatres in 2024.
The basic story of ‘Kill’ revolves around the story of a commando named Amrit (Lakshya), whose lover Tulika (Tanya Maniktala) is being coerced by her family for an arranged marriage. But when the train in which Tulika is travelling gets attacked by ruthless bandits, it’s up to Amrit and his fellow commando to save the train passengers from the violent attackers and save the girl.
