Aquaman Swims To The First Place In Weekend BO

As Christmas approaches, it sends a fair few gifts to some movies as this weekend has definitely been an exciting one for most moviegoers, especially DC with its struggling ship. Though it observed very mediocre numbers, it was enough to climb to the top place.

“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” debuted with $28M and is projecting a $40M domestic gross throughout the four-day holiday. However, the stats are nowhere as promising as the previous one, as it opened with a $67M tag.

It even had a weaker collection than “The Marvels,” which became the worst opener in MCU’s history, continuing DC’s struggles and indicating the franchise might need a reboot sooner than later.

Timothée Chalamet’s “Wonka” occupies the second place with a chocolaty $17.7M, and it might get a boost in the festive season. Aquaman and Wonka will definitely fight it out to be the kids’ favorite movie for Christmas this year, as there is no competition.

Though Disney lost its animation charm, the industry is budding as Universal’s Original Animation stands at the third place in the weekend box office. “Migration” opened with a $12.3M price tag and can expand to $18M by Monday.

Sony’s “Anyone But You” secured a fourth-place debut, earning $9 million from 3,055 theaters during the four-day holiday weekend. Despite a lukewarm start for a nationwide release, its economical $25 million budget mitigates the impact of its performance.

Meanwhile, A24’s “The Iron Claw” collected $7.5 million from 2,774 venues over the holiday frame. With a $16 million budget, the drama, focusing on the tragic true story of the Von Erich family, opted for a nationwide release, yet its box office results suggest a moderate reception.

Then it was India’s victory at the box office with “Salaar,” as India is back with another violent extravaganza, this time putting the ‘gandasa’ aside and picking up guns.

Also, for some godforsaken reason, “Hunger Games” is still holding a stable box office, managing to gross $3.2M and taking its monumental domestic box office to $152M. Its theatrical run is indeed memorable as Hunger Games is still competing with some big titles despite a November 17th release date.
