AR Rahman’s Romantic Musical 99 Songs Finally Gets a Release Date!

AR Rahman has taken the Indian music industry to new levels with his surreal tracks over the ages. He has kept himself away from the limelight and controversy as much as possible and comes across as a very shy personality and this time around he is making rounds for his much-awaited 99 songs.

99 songs is a romantic musical that stars newcomers Ehan Bhat and Edilsy Vargas in lead roles. 99 songs is written and directed by Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy. AR Rahman apart from having worked on the musical score has also produced and co-created the story for this unique project.

99 Songs follows the story of a struggling musician who goes on a path of art and self-discovery and tries to make it a successful music composer. It highlights the struggles and obstacles that have to be faced in this journey.

The world premiere of 99 songs initially took place at the 24th Busan International Film Festival on 9th October 2019. The rights of this film were brought by Jio Studios. The film will release in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. Vishesh Krishnamoorthy apart from being a director was also a musician at one time and lead vocalist for a Mumbai-based band called Scribe. The cast also includes other talented musicians such as Ranjit Barot, Rahul Ram, and Remo Fernandes. One can also see performers like Tenzin Dalha, Aditya Seal, Lisa Ray, and Manisha Koirala portraying other essential roles in this film.

Ehan Bhat was given training at AR Rahman’s KM Music Conservatory and was also sent to Los Angeles for training by acting and success coach Bernard Hiller. 99 Songs was initially slated to release on 21st June 2019 which is also celebrated as World Music day but had to be postponed as the post-production team was still working on some VFX effects.
99 Songs is all set to release in theatres on 16th April 2021.
