2020 has changed the way that we do things. Masks and other safety precautions have become mandatory and digital platforms are enjoying a new wave of interest that has been placed in their content.
While many platforms have taken the plunge and created unique content with non-linear storytelling to immersive psychological thrillers, there have also been some questionable choices from some of the new and upcoming platforms.
There has been a sudden rise in erotica’s and while every filmmaker or creator has the right to make what he/she wants most of them have just used this as a means to promote voyeurism. What is even worse is stories that had genuine potential have been ruined because digital platforms went too far.
Series like Paurashpur which could be so much more eventually fell into the trap of just an excessive show of skin. Mastraam was also a good opportunity to discuss the psyche and struggles of a writer who had to eventually go to erotica’s to make a decent income and name for himself.
Many of these shows can actually be used as a platform for how innate sexual fantasies and desires of humans are considered taboos and even talking about them can put you on sort of a blacklist but instead what we get most of the time is a list of sleazy shows.
These shows undermine the fact that we need to be open without thoughts and cater more towards the perverse audience who we know will deny it but genuinely gravitate towards such content. Even the younger audiences who are malleable are prone to this cheap trick to get more views.
We do not have anything against erotica’s but using them as an opportunity to create a sleaze fest does not feel right.
