HBO shows are one of the best shows in the world. Series such as The Game Of Thrones, Succession, House Of The Dragon, Euphoria, etc are not only popular but their impact on the TV industry is impeccable.
The company’s streaming service was called HBO Max but things are changed now. Now, the streaming service will be called just Max. This change will solidify on May 23. There were tons of announcements yesterday but Indians were waiting for something else.
Up until March 31st, all HBO shows were streaming on Disney+Hotstar. The streaming giant did not charge any extra penny for hosting international blockbusters and it was one of the USPs of the platform.
However, HBO shows are not streaming anymore in India. The conversation of HBO Max to Max or the huge slate announcement does not really make any sense in India. As long as the company doesn’t settle in India as a self regulating platform or license it to some other platform, it will be losing a huge market.
Regardless, was there any announcement on the possible release of the platform in India?
Unfortunately, no. Even after so much speculation, Max is not launching in India anytime soon. The officials did not utter a word about its launch in India.
The company did not mention any prospect of a partnership with any other OTT platform in India as well. To sum up, yesterday was a big night for HBO and Max, but things don’t matter here in India.
At least as long as the company is not streaming its shows in India.
