Are Series the Future Face of Indian Entertainment?

For years, Indian films have been the heart and soul of our entertainment industry. From grand movie releases to star-studded premieres, films have always led the way. But things are changing. With a new 100% tariff being proposed in the U.S. on all foreign-made films, the cost of releasing Indian movies overseas could shoot up. That’s bad news, especially since the U.S. is one of the biggest markets for Indian cinema.

Now, here’s where series come into the picture. Unlike films, series are usually released on streaming platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime. These platforms are available everywhere, including the U.S., and the content on them doesn’t yet face the same kind of taxes as movies. So, while it may become harder and more expensive to take Indian films to a global audience, Indian series can still travel easily and reach people all over the world.
This could be the moment when series become the new face of Indian entertainment. They’re cheaper to produce, easier to distribute, and give writers more time to tell deeper stories. Plus, audiences are loving them. People enjoy watching episodes at their own pace, right from their phones or TVs at home.

It’s not that films are going away. But if the cost of sending them abroad keeps rising, series might take the lead. With a growing appetite for fresh content and fewer hurdles in the way, Indian series might just become our biggest cultural export in the years to come.
