While those favouring such web series and movies are cast as pseudo-liberals and are considered anti-Hindu. From filing FIRs to starting online petitions to trending hashtags on social media, all sorts of propaganda are undertaken. But does the problem really lie in the content or is it somewhere else?
Mostly, it’s about perspective and thought process, otherwise the content would be offensive to one and all. And more so at times it’s just insecurity in one’s own mind. Nobody in general tries to hurt the community’s sentiment intentionally. But neither does anyone has a control on one’s thoughts.
Categorising content as Hindi-phobic and subsequently bringing censorship on this ground might hamper the creativity of the makers trying to bring out the society’s ugly truth. And it’s never easy to digest such harsh realities. Moreover, the OTTs themselves have created a code of conduct to keep in check what goes online for streaming.
It’s a completely different scenario and definitely not acceptable, if something spreads hate message against a particular religion, community or practice. But as time advances, we as a society should be progressive and evolve along with it. Constricting our mindset will stop us from coming face to face with hard truths.
