Can we take a moment to appreciate Mohammad Shami and Virat Kohli? Well, they certainly deserve a memento and not just a moment. Because the real moment is being enjoyed by streaming giant Disney+Hotstar. The decision to stream World Cup 2023 matches for free is nothing short of a blockbuster for them.
The previous record for the highest streaming views in any cricket match was merely 4.4 crores… If that was not big enough, we were certainly overjoyed when the record touched 5 crores in India’s batting inning. But, but, but…
The record is again broken and we have a new benchmark to look at. Hotstar just peaked with 5.3 crore people watching the match at the same time. Mind you we are not counting TV numbers which brings an even greater number of people together.
So, Hotstar broke its own previous record by a whopping margin of more than 90 lakh accounts which is certainly a big deal.
But, all eyes rest on the finals which is scheduled for this Sunday and we are expecting the record to cross even 6 crores. As it is a Sunday and a great number of people will watch it for the finals, it is going to be one hell of a Sunday at Hotstar.
