Book adaptation is slowly becoming an interesting promise for filmmakers as they already have a storyline to work with and most of them have an already established fan base which makes it easier to market the title. The rights of Ashwin Sanghi’s book ‘The Keepers of the Kalachakra’ has been bagged by Abundantia Entertainment and plans are being hatched to convert it into a web series.
‘The Keepers of the Kalachakra’ is a mythological fiction thriller that blends quantum theory along with the world of spirituality. (I guess Marvel isn’t the only one who experiments with this concept after all). It tells us the story of the men who are present to protect the Kalachakra also known as the wheel of time.
Vikram Malhotra who heads Abundantia Entertainment has plans of converting this into a multi-season series and Ashwin Sanghi will be working closely with the scriptwriters of the title to fine-tune the project further.
‘Keepers of the Kalckahra’ has a bit of all right from the Ramayana to Buddhism and Einstein’s gravitational wave detectors of LIGO. Vijay Sundaram is a scientist who is racing against all the odds to save humanity from catastrophe. One gets everything from conflicts of faith to a world where people are at war with each other to propagate their ulterior motives.
The Indian cinematic industry has been relatively hesitant when it comes to creating stories that have a sci-fi mythological background even though we have been blessed with such a rich and diverse history. The cost and effort to make such titles are always big and so is the risk that comes with it especially when you speak on any sensitive topic.
We just hope that Abundantia Entertainment can do proper justice to the storyline here and create something unique for the Indian audiences that have been craving for a good Indian origin sci-fi story.
