Audiences Are Loving ‘Qala’, But Is It Better Than ‘Bulbbul’?

Qala has been received by audiences with great love since it premiered on Netflix. The absolutely brilliant visuals and unique execution of the movie is something they have never seen before. It proves Anvita Dutta’s ability to direct a story with beauty and aesthetics once more.

But is it better than Bulbbul? Bulbbul was a movie that got mixed reactions from audiences in the beginning and also had to see the face of controversy. But there is absolutely no doubt that it was a strong story with brilliant editing and cinematography. The execution of the story and the performances were beyond amazing. Some said it was a predictable movie, some said it was pretty but problematic. Well, to be problematic was intentional. It takes feminism and puts it into a horror story and takes the whole to a very different level.

‘Qala’ is pretty, aesthetic, wonderfully shot but is a bit slow burn and many people do not like that. Bulbbul had a tight story with no space left for boredom. Bulbbul had an engaging second half too, where Qala gets unconvincing towards the end. Anvita Dutta’s second beats her debut film Bulbbul in the category of music and songs. It has absolutely beautiful songs that are composed, written and sung with care.

Bulbbul was a purely original story, where Qala looks somehow inspired from ‘Black Swan’ in its subject and themes. The main attraction of the movie is its music but without that it does not reach to the level of brilliance of a story that Bulbbul showed. But it is a must watch and if you have not watched it till now, go to Netflix and experience the sheer beauty and magic of the ‘Qala’.
