Netflix began streaming The Crown Season 3 from November 17, and judging from the first reviews coming in from audiences and critics, the new season has received a resounding thumbs up on all counts.
The positive reviews for Season 3 are a vindication for the huge wager taken by Peter Morgan, the creator of The Crown, in casting new actors every two seasons, thereby risking audience attachment to the original actors.
Season 3 stars Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II, Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip, and Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, replacing Claire Foy, Matt Smith, and Vanessa Kirby, who played the roles in the first two seasons. A compelling role this season is Josh O’Connor’s portrayal of Prince Charles.
Twitterati has voted overwhelmingly in favour of the new season, praising the acting of the principal characters as well as the opulence and lavishness of the production. Episode 3 of the ten-part series has come in for special praise.
The Crown follows the life of Queen Elizabeth II, with each season covering a decade or so of her life. The third season documents the Queen’s reign between 1964 and 1977.
