Avatar 2: James Cameron, Zoe Saldana Make Unique Box-Office Records

James Cameron’s ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ has zoomed past the massive $2 billion box office benchmark globally and has now become the sixth movie ever to be able to do that. The ‘Avatar’ sequel has earned over $1 billion from 3D screenings alone Moreover, two of the sequel’s stakeholders James Cameron, the director, and its lead actress Zoe Saldana have also created some unique records alongside.

Now, James Cameron has become the only director in the world to be associated with three films surpassing the $2 billion mark internationally. His other two blockbusters ‘Avatar’ (2009, $2.9 billion) and ‘Titanic’ (1997, $2.2 billion) had already achieved the distinction of being the highest and third highest grossing movies, respectively.

On the other hand, ‘Avatar 2’ star Zoe Saldana, who played the role of the beautiful and brave Na’vi Neytiri in both the films, has become the only actress in the world to have acted in four films with over $2 billion grosses. Besides ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, the other three films are ‘Avatar’, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, and ‘Avengers: Endgame’.

After achieving the rare $2 billion box-office figure, ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ is expected to soon surpass ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’. And it seems, that shouldn’t be a problem for the epic film.

But, like we have said before, the real challenges for ‘Avatar 2’ in order to become the highest grossing movie of all time would be to beat James Cameron’s own films ‘Titanic’ and the first ‘Avatar’ movie along with the Marvel biggie ‘Avengers: Endgame’. Surpassing ‘Titanic’ seems possible as per the current box-office trend, but it would be super interesting to see whether ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ would be eventually able to beat ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and finally, ‘Avatar’ or not.
