The MCU and Kang, as of now, aren’t a match made in heaven. In terms of success in the comics, very few characters achieved a similar feat, but on the big and small screens, the scenario is quite different. Kang can’t really conquer this timeline; he’s quite a flop in a sense.
Now, Loki did show a side of Kang that is indeed fierce, but Ant-Man damaged the reputation of the character like nothing else. The fault can’t be on Kang; he can’t be blamed, but Marvel’s creative decision to let Ant-Man win over Kang damaged the credibility enough.
Marvel is not in trouble; the scene is quite the opposite. The recent progress and Super Bowl trailers and events surrounding them are making them stronger.
After the firing of Majors, the situation is already in the mud, but it’s getting worse. Though there are rumors of recasting Kang, the possibilities look really timid right now.
The upcoming Avengers film, originally named “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” is set for a title change, distancing from the character. Reports suggest this shift began before the actor’s legal issues and stems from the previous film’s lower-than-expected box office earnings.
A creative reboot will indeed benefit the future timeline, especially as they are prioritizing the Fantastic Four. It can definitely build Doom or Galactus, big enough threats for the Avengers.
