Avijatrik Trailer: A Tribute To Satyajit Ray & The Golden Age Of Cinema

By Binged Bureau - May 07, 2021 @ 04:05 pm

After almost 60 years, Apu is coming back to his home, his Nischindipur. Yes, Satyajit Ray‘s greatest creation is coming back in a new perspective on Silver-Screen.

The trailer of Avijatrik – The wanderlust of Apu is a masterpiece, itself. The complete trailer reminds you of the art once nurtured by Satyajit Ray. The trailer is shot (may be the complete movie too) in black and white tone to stay faithful with Ray’s Apu Trilogy. The mesmerizing music of Apu Trilogy which was created by music maestro Ravi Shankar, is modified to create the tune of the film by his daughter, Anoushka Shankar.

Every single frame of the Avijatrik trailer will remind the gigantic yet rural stature of Apu Trilogy. Those who are unfamiliar with it, the Trilogy of three films Pather Panchali, Aparajito and Apur Sansar, directed by Satyajit Ray, revolves around the childhood, education and early maturity of a young Bengali named Apu (Apurba Kumar Roy) in the early part of the 20th century. Based on two Bengali novels written by Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay, the Trilogy is often cited as the greatest films in the history of Indian cinema.

Now, as Avijatrik aims to be the sequel to that trilogy, it’s evident from the trailer that Apu will relive his childhood through the eyes of Kajol, his only child. The trailer takes the ather and son duo on a new journey to Varanasi and his native village Nischindipur, in the backdrop of British India.

Just like the story of the film, the cast also includes the father-son duo Sabyasachi Chakraborty – Arjun Chakrabarty. Arjun will portray the character of Apu, which was once immortalized by one the greatest Bengali actor, Soumitra Chattopadhyay. Apart from them the film features Arpita Pal, Sreelekha Mitra, Tanusree Shankar and Ditipriya Roy as Apu’s wife, Aparna. The background score of Avijatrik is created by Bickram Ghosh.

Avijatrik had already created buzz earlier in February 2021 when it was set to compete for the $25,000 Knight Marimbus Award at the 38th Miami Film Festival and also was selected for the competition section of the Kolkata International Film Festival.

Directed by Subhrajit Mitra and produced by Gaurang Jalan and Madhur Bhandarkar, Avijatrik will surely open a new frontier for the new generation movie lovers who may not be much familiar with Satyajit Ray’s body of work and will celebrate 100 years of Ray’s birth anniversary. The release date of the film is yet to be revealed but it’s speculated that the film may be set to be released in late-2021.
