‘Awara Paagal Deewana’ Sequel on the Cards. Sajid Khan Might Direct

The maker of the 2002 action-comedy multi-starrer film ‘Awara Paagal Deewana’ has hinted at the film’s possible sequel already being planned to be made. It was further indicated that actor-filmmaker Sajid Khan might be roped in to direct the sequel.

Awara Paagal Deewana’ was helmed by ‘Raaz’ director Vikram Bhatt, who is also known for his work in films like ‘Ghulam’ (starring Aamir Khan and Rani Mukerji), mystery-thriller ‘Kasoor’ and the horror flick ‘1920’.

The film revolved around the character of a dentist, who, by a twist of fate, gets embroiled with the underworld, thereby ensuing a comedic quagmire. The film had an ensemble cast including Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Aftab Shivdasani, Paresh Rawal, and Johnny Lever.

If the planned venture comes to fruition, the sequel may reunite the hit trio of Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, and Paresh Rawal, who had previously given us the delightful laugh riot ‘Hera Pheri’ (helmed by acclaimed filmmaker Priyadarshan) back in the year 2000.

The sequel might be Sajid Khan’s seventh directorial venture, following his 2014 comedy film ‘Humshakals’ starring Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh and Ram Kapoor essaying triple roles. Prior to that, he had directed Ajay Devgan in the action-comedy film ‘Himmatwala’. Both these films were not very well received by the audience and critics alike, unlike his earlier films namely ‘Heyy Babyy’, ‘Housefull’, and ‘Housefull 2’ – all three featuring the charming entertainer Akshay Kumar.

While Akshay Kumar has a slew of films lined up for release including Rohit Shetty’s cop-actioner ‘Sooryavanshi’, period spy flick ‘Bell Bottom’ and Aanand L. Rai’s ‘Atrangi Re’. The actor’s previous comedy-horror film ‘Laxmii’, which had him essaying the role of a man possessed by a transgender’s ghost, reportedly became the most-watched film on the OTT platform Disney+ Hotstar.
