Despite all the brickbats it gets, one thing about Netflix no one can deny is the fact that it always brings the best content from across the world for its subscribers. Netflix is easily the leader in streaming bingeable content in languages other than English, especially Korean, Scandinavian and Japanese content.
Now, the streaming giant is bringing its subscribers in India yet another compelling drama – this time a Japanese one. The series is titled ‘Dearest‘, also known as ‘Saiai’ in Japan. ‘Dearest’ premieres on Netflix worldwide on 16th February. The show premiered on Japanese TV in late 2021, and is now premiering on Netflix for users across countries.
‘Dearest’ is a murder mystery, along with romance thrown into the mix. What’s more, it is an award-winning series, having won the top prize at the Tokyo Drama Awards. The series is directed by Ayuko Tsukahara, and stars Yoshitaka Yuriko, Matsushita Kouhei, Iura Arata, Oikawa Mitsuhiro, Mitsuishi Ken, Tanaka Minami, among others.
The story of ‘Dearest’ centres on a rising businesswoman, Sanada Rio (Yoshitaka Yuriko), who becomes the key witness in a murder being investigated by her first love, Detective Miyazaki DaikiIura Arata (Matsushita Kouhei). The story unfolds in two timelines. The murder that took place in 2007 comes back to haunt Sanada Rio, as well as brings her face to face with her former lover.
The official synopsis of ‘Dearest’ reads, “An elite businesswoman becomes a material witness to a murder somehow connected to a missing persons case that occurred in her home town 15 years ago.”
Japanese series ‘Dearest’ premieres on Netflix worldwide on 16th February.
