Award-Winning Short Films Make Their Way To This OTT Platform

Video streaming platform, Disney+ Hotstar is partnering with film, media and art institute, Whistling Woods International to stream short films that are made by its students.

The films will premiere on the OTT platform over the next few weeks and will be available to stream in the ‘Short Films’ category. The line-up includes ‘Alaksha’, a power-packed drama about the 26/11 attacks on Mumbai which won the Perfect 10 Award at the JIO MAMI Mumbai Film Festival in 2018; ‘Manorath’ is a short film inspired by Rabindranath Tagore’s ‘The Postmaster’ which won the Best Screenplay award at the Pune International Film Festival in 2015; ‘Hoop Diaries’ is a sports drama revolving around a girl overcoming a personal trauma, among others.

Meghna Ghai Puri, WWI President, said in a statement, “Whistling Woods International is extremely proud to announce its association with Disney+ Hotstar. Through this venture, viewers across India can choose inspiring and thought-provoking films created by our talented students. By providing a platform to these aspiring filmmakers, to be able to showcase their work, we hope to inspire future generations of artists to pursue their dreams, and follow the institute’s motto of Do What You Love.”

The short films join the repertoire that are already available on Disney+ Hotstar including ‘Film City’, ‘Kanchey’, ‘Aalav’ and ‘500 Rupay’, which received a Filmfare nomination and seven awards.

The students at WWI are given a holistic education in the fields of film, media and communication which has led to a tremendous contribution by its students to the entertainment industry and given various unique, highly-acclaimed films to premiere on the Disney+ Hotstar platform.
