Makers of Ayushmann Khurrana and Ananya Panday starrer ‘Dream Girl 2’ have once again set a new release date for the film. A spiritual sequel to the 2019 film ‘Dream Girl’, ‘Dream Girl 2’ will now release in cinemas on 25th August, 2023 instead of the earlier announced 7th July, 2023.
According to the official announcement this postponement comes in the wake of some more preparations needed to improve the VFX quality in the film before the release which will need more time and hence more than a month and a half delay.
This seems a little contradictory and not very plausible a reason since the very recent Eid promo also mentioned 7th July as the release date for ‘Dream Girl 2’. Moreover, there are certain other speculations doing rounds on the internet that seem more likely. The major one amongst them is that there are high chances of Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jawan’ being postponed to June end.
In that case that gave Raaj Shaandilyaa directorial ‘Dream Girl 2’ only about a week’s window if it released on 7th July. So to avoid being overshadowed by ‘Jawan’, which has very high expectations after the blockbuster success of ‘Pathaan’, postponing the film appears to be a more smart and practical choice.
But since there is no official statement from ‘Jawan’ makers about the changes in the film’s release date, all of the above is more of an assumption for now. On the other hand many believe that ‘Dream Girl 2’ postponement further asserts the fact that ‘Jawan’ will not release on the officially announced 2nd June but on 28th or 29th June.
Other than the ‘Jawan’ factor, many also think that ‘Dream Girl 2’, which is backed by Ektaa R Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures, is postponed to avoid a direct clash with Siddharth Malhotra starrer ‘Yodha’ also set to release on 7th July, 2023.
