Bad Boys 5? Will Smith & Martin Lawrence Talk About Sequel Return

Bad Boys 5 seems like a done deal, considering the outstanding opening weekend performance of Bad Boys: Ride or Die. Starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, the fifth entry has earned over $104.5 million in its opening weekend, praised for being one of the biggest R-rated movie openings in the last few years. The fourth chapter of detectives Mike Lowery and Marcus Burnett’s lives has revived Hollywood’s summer season. It exceeded all expectations and certainly earned way more than the early predictions made by many prominent media entertainment platforms, including Deadline. Most of them believed the newest Bad Boys entry might rake in nearly $75-80 million globally in its opening weekend.

Smith and Lawrence recently talked with Entertainment Weekly about “Ride or Die” and revealed their intentions about Bad Boys 5. The duo confirmed that they were ready to return to the sequel. Smith, in particular, stressed about doing fewer stunts in the next entry. Check out his statement below:

“I never wanted to be one of those dudes who make sequels just because people will go. I want to make them because there is something to say and the characters have a place that they’re developing to that will be interesting and fun to watch and maybe even a little helpful. Is there something that can happen in these characters’ lives that is worth asking people to go to a movie theater for? And with this movie, the answer is a resounding yes.”

Lawrence shares the sentiment, believing their return depends on the fans’ demands. If the fans want them back for Bad Boys 5, they’ll definitely return for the sequel.

Given the movie’s impressive opening weekend performance, Bad Boys: Ride or Die may easily outperform its 2020 predecessor, which minted over $426.5 million worldwide. The latest instalment has nearly a month to perform at the box office until Despicable Me 4, which is scheduled to arrive on July 3, 2024.

Bad Boys 5 stars Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Paola Nunez, Joe Pantoliano, Ioan Gruffudd, Jacob Scipio, Tiffany Haddish, and more. Stay tuned for more updates.
